Check Our List Before Going in the Outdoors!

No matter what you are planning to do in the outdoors, following some tips are going to help you fully enjoy your trip.
Without any farther introduction, here’s our list:

·         Get your emergency supplies

This doesn’t refer to your first-aid kit, but it includes some useful gear that you always need when going in the outdoors: a map, flashlight, knife, whistle, insect protection, waterproof fire starter and some high-energy food.

·         Take  a first-aid kit

You need to be well prepared when going in the outdoors, so this is why you should have on you tweezers, antiseptic for scrapes and cuts, insect repellant, bug spray, pain relievers and even snakebite kit.

·         Get informed on treating emergencies

It’s important to know how to identify serious injuries and how to give first aid. Not moving someone as he may have hit his spine or clearing his ways as he just lost conscious is essential so it’s always a good thing to know how to give first aid.

·         Check the weather report

You may want to throw in your backpack a compact weather radio to check the weather changes when out there. If the weather gets worse, you need to setup a shelter so that you stay dry as much as you can. Don’t forget your sleeping bag and always try to keep your clothes and gear dry.

·         Stay away from potential risks

Even though the chances are slim, you should double check your campsite for glass, any sharp objects, but also for nature’s hazard: bees, poison ivy and hazardous terrain.
Take a closer look at the contour of the land and see if it’s safe if rain is coming. Stay away from an area that may flood or become too muddy on a rainy day.

·         Build the fire in a safe area

Your open fire and fuel-burning appliances must be far enough away from your tent so that you minimize risk for ignition. Never use a flame or any other heating device inside your tents. Use your flashlight inside instead.
